The Empire Strikes Back

Can I really see Bill Gates as a nerdy Darth Vader ? Well, I dunno, but as predicted just a couple of posts back, Google's application of pressure on Microsoft has already borne fruit for the consumer (i.e. all of us). Microsoft announced today that they are going to put stripped down versions of Office on the web for free. This is a clear response to the Google Docs applications that are already free online. And it means that as I explained below, whichever platform you use, competition is healthy.

Personally speaking I have now decided to replace my PC landscape with Macs, starting in September with the Macbook, and then following later with the iMac. I will retain a PC though, in order to play an occasional FPS, and my wife has a newish Windows laptop. So Microsoft will still have a place in my life, but I am planning to install Google's OS as soon as it comes out, if it's a viable alternative. If not, then I will never upgrade from XP, or 'the acceptable face of Windows' as it's otherwise known. I've made my choice, but I know that most will stick with the PC format, and why not, it's cheaper and does the job (in a fashion). So you will all be better off for the Microsoft vs Google battle, and it's about time too.
